Mosquito Bite Gone Bad. Very, Very Bad...

Laura was in hospital from June 16 -19th due to a swollen eye from a mosquito bite and then a secondary infection.

Laura was bit right below the eye on Monday evening (Ken killed the mosquito, but not before it had bit her). On Tuesday Laura's eye was swollen but she could see. Ken took Laura on a trip to the pharmacy and then the doctor (on the advice of the pharmacist). The instructions were to use Benadryl. However, when Laura woke from her nap at 3 pm her eye was worse and I rushed her back to the doctor. We were seen at 5 pm and then sent directly to the pediatrician on-call at the hospital. Laura was admitted, hooked up to an IV and remained in hospital until Friday just before lunch.

Ironically, Laura was given the same room that we had stayed in the year before when she had pneumonia. Let's hope we don't see that room again next year!

Tuesday morning at breakfast.

Tuesday afternoon while we waited in the doctor's office.
The infection spread so quickly that by 11:30 pm (before the IV drugs were started) Laura's face was swollen down to about her lips, was red, hard and hot, and there was a lot of yellow puss oozing out of her eye.

Pudding for lunch on Wednesday!
Hanging out in toy room of the pediatric ward with Grandma, Jacob and Bear (whom was a gift to Laura from the nurses).

Friday morning - waiting to see the doctor to find out if we could go home.
